Changes related to Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018

Updated: Jan 15

Since 1 July 2019, the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018 has replaced the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002, causing some changes that may affect you:

  • Completed current Form 1 must be provided when lodging a new plumbing application

  • A site classification report must be supplied where the works involves sanitary drainage

  • site articulation design (from engineer) must be provided if soil classification type is H, E or P.

  • An applicant can now apply to amend or extend an existing permit rather than lodging a brand new application.

  • A person must not use plumbing or drainage unless an inspection certificate or final certificate has been issued stating that the work is operational and fit for use. A maximum penalty of 250 units, or $32,637.5, can apply to the person who uses the plumbing and drainage.
